Kerala Forest Department Authorised Trekking Trails
Kerala's authorised trekking trails offer a safe and responsible way to experience the Western Ghats, evergreen forests, wildlife sanctuaries, waterfalls, grasslands, and river valleys. These routes are operated through Kerala Forest Department eco-tourism centres and protected-area programmes, with permissions, local guides, and forest rules in place.
Popular authorised trekking experiences include guided trails in Periyar Tiger Reserve, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary, Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Dhoni forest, Nedumkayam rainforest, Ponmudi, Mankayam, Gavi-Kakki, Chinnar, Eravikulam, Thattekad, Athirapally, Chimmony, and other registered eco-tourism centres across Kerala.
Each trail has its own season, entry rules, group size, difficulty level, and booking requirements. Trekkers should confirm availability through the official Kerala Forest Ecotourism portal or the concerned forest range office before travelling, especially during monsoon months, wildlife movement periods, or temporary forest closures.
